Evolution Korea
In the past, the Korean scientific community avoided working with creationists due to the fear of giving the movement more credence. However, silence is no anymore an option.
The STR has been fighting to remove content from textbooks that discuss evolution, including the discovery of the feathered dinosaur Archaeopteryx as an ancestor of birds. But this is merely one aspect of the evolution of the development paradigm.
What is Evolution?
Evolution is a theory of science that explains changes in genetic traits over time. The theory is based on the fact that living things adapt to their environment, which can cause variations in genes, or even entire genomes. Over many generations, these changes can lead to the emergence new species. The prevailing theory of evolution is called natural selection, which describes the process through which individuals with advantageous characteristics survive and reproduce more often than those with less favorable characteristics. Over 무료 에볼루션 , this differential reproduction can lead to the emergence of entirely new species.
The word "evolution" originates from the Latin for revealing or unrolling, has been used in a variety of different ways as the concept has changed, both in science as well as elsewhere. Early evolutionists, such as Jean Baptiste de Lamarck and Erasmus Darwin (Charles's grandfather), believed that existing species transformed into other species in a certain way. The term transmutation was coined by the Lamarck's disciple, embryologist Etienne Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire to describe this idea. Charles Lyell, who published the second volume of his Principles of Geology in 1833 challenged this notion and borrowed the term "evolution" from Geoffroy's student to describe the view that existing species change into different species in a gradual and predictable way.
Evolutionary biologists define evolution more recently as a process by which living creatures develop traits to improve their chances of surviving or conceiving offspring. In time, this genetic variability can result in the development of entirely new biological functions or physical traits in the same population. Natural selection is the process that drives most evolutionary changes. Non-genetic changes, such as an increase in muscle mass from exercise or diet, cannot be considered to be evolutionary because they aren't passed on to the next generation.
Creationists make the argument that evolution is controversial despite the fact that it has been proven accurate by thousands of scientific tests and that it has been tested over time. They argue that the theory shouldn't be taught in schools. In South Korea, creationists have had a few wins in their fight to remove evolution from high school textbooks which includes the removal of references to the evolutionary history of humans as well as the Archaeopteryx feathered dinosaur that is thought to be the ancestor of birds.
Why is Evolution Important to Humanity?
Evolution explains the origins of Earth and all living species. It is also one of the foundations of biology and helps scientists to understand how living things function and develop. Evolution also helps us understand the connections between species. Scientists study evolution to understand the natural world and also to make important discoveries like the development of new medicines.
The evidence for evolution is overwhelming. There is no other scientific theory that explains so many aspects of the universe and life on earth and has been thoroughly tested and confirmed over many years. Many people, including some religious leaders, are in favor of the scientific theory of evolution. It is important to understand that evolutionary biology does not conflict with religious beliefs, as the theory deals only with objects, events and processes in the physical world.
Many religious people have found a way to reconcile evolution with their beliefs. For example some Christians believe that God created the world through evolution and that humans share an ancestral connection with other animals.
It is crucial for scientists to advocate for the teaching of evolution. In certain countries, the opposition to evolution has been growing. In the United States, efforts to limit the teaching of evolution have made some headway in a few states. In South Korea, a group known as the Society for Textbook Revise (STR), an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research, is campaigning for the removal of textbook content about the evolution of horses and the bird ancestor Archaeopteryx.
While these are troubling changes, it's important to remember that the evidence for evolution is overwhelming. The evidence for evolution comes from a variety of sources, such as fossils, genetics and the behavior of living creatures. Other scientists independently confirm the evidence.
The vast majority of scientists support the theory of evolution. The reasons behind this support are diverse. Some scientists study evolution to make practical discoveries for example, such as the development of medications, while others are motivated by the desire to improve the lives of animals and plant species, generally to benefit humans. Some are simply curious, whereas others have a deep faith in God and want to understand how the universe works.
What is Creationism?
Creationists are people who believe that God created the universe and everything in it. 무료에볼루션 believe the Bible is God's word and should be believed to be true. Although Creationists may not all be Christian, they are a majority. Creationists generally fall into one of two categories: Young Earth creationists (YEC) and old earth creationists (OEC).
YECs are the most well known type of creationist and they believe that God created the universe in the exact way described in the Bible. They believe that the biblical account of the first six days of creation was literal and that the universe and the life on Earth were created only recently.
OECs might not be as popular, but their beliefs are just as intense as those of YECs. OECs believe that the universe and life on Earth are billions of years old, and that evolution is an untruth.
Both kinds of creationism deny the scientific theories that biogenesis and natural selection can explain how life started on Earth. They assert that evolution is inconceivable because it would require miracles. The pioneers of modern scientific thought shunned miracles out of fear they might lose their credibility.
Some creationists are able to accept naturalistic evolution as well as special creation, and refer to their view "theistic evolution." This is sometimes called "continuous creationism" or "evolution from the original species." In this view, God creates the original species and allows them to change over time. These evolutionary changes eventually will result in new species similar to the original.

Other creationists believe that God created the universe and all living things during a single event, referred to as the Great Flood. They believe that all the original species were created at the same moment and that they gradually evolved. They reject the idea of abiogenesis and assert that self-replicating living cannot come from non-living matter.
In general, creationists are opposed to the teaching of evolution in schools. This is supported by a myriad of professional associations which include the National Science Teachers Association, the Association for Science Teacher Education as well as the American Anthropological Association, and the Geological Society of America. However, some researchers and educational institutions are more flexible and allow for the inclusion of both evolution and creationism in their curricula.
What exactly is Creationism in Korea?
When people think of creationism, many of them think of the United States. South Korea also has an anti-evolution group. Publishers of high school textbooks have recently declared that they will be removing references to evolution from their editions. A group called the Society for Textbook Revise (STR) is an unofficial body that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research, has led the drive. The STR has won its first victory by removing from textbooks evidence of the evolution and ancestor of an avian, the Archeopteryx. The focus is now on removing snippets of Darwin's notorious finch research and on human evolution, too.
STR claims that it has the support of 4000 families and individuals. Its mission is to cut out what it sees as the "atheist materialism" that creates a bleak worldview for students. It also hopes to combat the influence of American creationists in the country. A survey of trainees in biology revealed that half of them did not believe in evolution. The reasons for this aren't entirely certain, but could be related to religious beliefs or the absence of creation scientists in the United States.
The KACR has achieved many things through its seminars and lectures. It publishes a bimonthly magazine called Creation and a book. One of them was an educational textbook on natural sciences that had a creationist perspective. This sparked an interest among college communities. In 1991 an academic and minister began teaching Creation Science in one university, and it continues to be taught to this day.
On August 6 and 7, 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. This was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon. Six lecturers from abroad including ICR's John Morris, Duane Gish and Steven Austin spoke to audiences of a few thousand. KACR members and KACR have also given lectures on creation science in prestigious seminaries. KACR is planning to create a Creation Science Education Center.
